You will need: Cardboard Disbin (available from www.disbin.com), Masking tape, Paintbrushes, Pencil, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Bathurst and Resene Poprock, Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom tinted to Resene First Light, Resene Quick Dry, Tape measure

Top tip: Use purple low-tack masking tape to avoid any potential damage to paintwork.

Other ideas: Create a funky toy storage box by painting a Disbin with two contrasting colours from the Resene KidzColour range.

How to build a striped laundry box

Step one
Assemble the Disbin base and lid following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step two
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the Disbin base and lid, allowing two hours to dry.

Step three
Apply two coats of Resene Poprock to the base of the Disbin, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step four
Apply two coats of Resene Bathurst to the lid of the Disbin, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step five
Mask off six 100mm strips around the base of the Disbin, as shown.

Step six
Paint alternate strips with one coat of Resene Bathurst, allowing two hours to dry.

Step seven
Apply a second coat of Resene Bathurst and carefully remove the masking tape before the paint dries. Allow two hours to dry.

Step eight
Complete the look with your laundry. Paint walls and skirting with two coats of Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom tinted to Resene First Light, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
