Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Circular concrete paver, Exterior construction glue, Large terracotta pot, Paintbrushes (including artists’ brushes), Pencil, Resene Concrete Primer, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Dust Storm and Resene Old Brick, Resene Testpots of Resene Alabaster, Resene Gorse, Resene Mariner and Resene Space Cadet, Resene Terracotta Sealer

Top tip: Mark painted the background shed wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Dairy Cream and the decking with Resene Sidewalk paving paint tinted to Resene Calico.

Instructions

Step one
Apply one coat of Resene Terracotta Sealer to the inside and outside of the terracotta pot and allow to dry.

Step two
Apply two coats of Resene Old Brick to the outside of the terracotta pot, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step three
Apply one coat of Resene Concrete Primer to the concrete paver and allow two hours to dry.

Step four
Apply two coats of Resene Dust Storm to the concrete paver, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step five
With a pencil, lightly draw a moon and star shapes on the concrete paver.

Step six
Fill in the shapes, making ‘dabs’ of paint with a small artists’ brush. Use Resene Gorse for the moon shape and Resene Alabaster for the star shapes, as shown, and allow two hours to dry.

Step seven
Edge each shape with small ‘dabs’ of Resene Space Cadet and use a wider artists’ brush to make a line of larger ‘dabs’ around the edge and sides of the paver. Allow two hours to dry.

Step eight
Fill in the background area using random ‘dabs’ of Resene Mariner and allow two hours to dry. Fix the concrete paver onto the upturned pot with a generous amount of exterior construction glue. Allow to dry before using.

Other ideas: Create a bright sun design using Resene Outrageous and Resene Wild Thing over a basecoat of Resene Half Joss and fill in the background with Resene Bowie and Resene Elvis.
