Craft with Resene, from the Australian Women's Weekly
Add a gentle warmth to your Christmas decorations with painted candle holders made from jars.

Wash jars, using hot water and detergent and dry completely. Give the jars a light sand so the paint will stick to them.
Photocopy the templates below onto a sticky label sheet (scale to fit the jars). Gloss label sheets are better as the paint doesn’t absorb. Alternatively you can rub some candle wax over the shape so it will be less absorbent.

Cut out the snowflake shape and stick on the centre of the jar. Ensure all edges are stuck down firmly, so paint doesn’t seep under. Paint the entire jar with your chosen Resene colour (see our list of Resene blues below). Dry before applying a second coat.
Note: If you find the snowflake shape too complicated, try a simple star, bell or tree shape instead.
To finish, wind some twine around the top of the jar. Paint a wooden craft snowflake or similar in metallic Resene Goldmine. When dry, thread onto twine and attach to the top of the jar with a bow or tassel.
Snowflake templates: Photocopy to fit jar size.

Always ensure lit candles are under adult supervision. Always extinguish all candles before going to sleep. Replace candles when they are at least 20mm from the top edge of the candleholder.
