It’s easy to give a plain framed mirror the metallic ‘wow’ factor with a little bit of help from Resene.

Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 60

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, filler, mirror in wooden frame, paintbrush, putty knife or similar, Resene Quick Dry, Resene testpots of Resene Tory Blue and Resene Zoop De Loop, sandpaper, small stick for stirring paint.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Silver Chalice.

Other ideas: For a rich purple effect paint the mirror frame with one coat of Resene Daisy Bush and two coats of Resene Funtasia.

How to paint a mirror

Step 1Step one
Remove the mirror and backing board from the frame.
Step 2Step two
Fill any holes or imperfections in the frame with filler and allow to dry.
Step 3Step three
Lightly sand the frame and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 4Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the frame and allow to dry.
Step 5Step five
Apply one coat of Resene Tory Blue to the frame and allow to dry.
Step 6Step six
Carefully stir the Resene Zoop De Loop with the small stick.
Step 7Step seven
Apply two coats of Resene Zoop De Loop to the frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 8Step eight
Replace the mirror and backing board into the frame.
