How to build a bird bath
Brighten up a corner of the garden with this easy-to-build bird bath.

Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 66
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need:
- Large ceramic bowl filled with water
- Paint stirrers
- Paintbrush
- Resene Concrete Primer
- Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Eighth Stonewashed
- Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer
- Square concrete paver
- Tall rectangular planter (ours was coated concrete).
To get the look: Mark painted the background shed wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Pale Leaf.
Other ideas: For a pale green effect paint the bird bath with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Soft Mint.
Instructions
Step one Carefully open and stir the Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer.
Step two Apply one coat of the Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the planter and allow to dry. (Note: if the surface of the planter is shiny, then sand it first to ‘key’ the surface.)
Step three Carefully open and stir the Resene Concrete Primer.
Step fourApply one coat of Resene Concrete Primer to the paver and allow to dry.
Step five Carefully open and stir the Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Eighth Stonewashed.
Step six Apply two coats of Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Eighth Stonewashed to the planter, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step seven Apply two coats of Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Eighth Stonewashed to the paver, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step eight Place the paver on top of the planter and then place the large ceramic bowl filled with water on top of this.
