Give a sweet little table half a chance and it will happily deliver a big lift to your bedroom

If you’re looking to give your bedroom a small-scale style update, adding upcycled bedside tables is a great place to start. Browse secondhand shops or online for a small character table that speaks your language, then simply slice, sand, seal and paint for a totally original duo at a fraction of the usual price.

Learn how to upcyle bedside tables
Measure the table and draw a pencil line across the middle.
Using the jigsaw, cut the table into 2 equal pieces. Sand off any rough edges.
Coat tables in Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer.
Paint tables in 2 coats of Resene paint, letting the paint dry after each coat.
Place tables against wall on either side of bed (you could fix to the wall with a small bracket, if you prefer). Let the tables provide design and colour prompts as you style the rest of the room.
