  • 15-25mm dowel
  • Saw

Stylist's note:

Method / steps

  1. Draft a design with an interesting shape and pick your colour combinations. (A)

  2. Protect the floor with a Resene drop cloth.

  3. Use a saw to cut the scrap wood to the desired lengths. Our pieces were between 25cm and 70cm long. (B)

  4. Lay out the planks next to one another and measure the width needed for the backing plank. (C)

Supplies used
Supplies used

  1. Cut the dowel into 6-10cm.

  2. Sand the wood.

  3. Round off the edges of one end of each dowel piece. (D)

  4. Prime all pieces with Resene Quick Dry primer. (E)

  1. Paint the wood pieces in your favourite Resene colours. Paint the dowel in your favourite Resene colours – we alternated colours to contrast with the wood. (F)

  2. Drill pilot holes in the dowel and through the plank where you will place the dowel. (G)

  3. Screw the dowel to the plank from the back, using the long screws. (H)

  4. Use a drill to make pilot holes where each plank will attach to the backing piece. (I)
