Resene Toys and Games with Mark Rayner - Project 17
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Clean cloth, Hammer, Paintbrush, Panel pins, Pencil, Piece of unpainted wood (ours measured approximately 90mm x 20mm x 420mm), PVA glue, Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene Colorwood testpot of Resene Red Beech, Ruler, Sandpaper, Saw with mitre box
To get the look: Mark painted the background table with Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Kingfisher Daisy.
Other ideas: For a bright red finish use a Resene Colorwood testpot of Resene Red Pepper.
Step one
Mark the length of wood into three pieces measuring 100mm, 120mm and 200mm long.
Step two
Use the mitre box and saw to cut the wood at accurate right angles.
Step three
Lightly sand the wood and smooth any rough edges, then wipe off any sanding dust with a clean cloth.
Step four
Measure and rule a line across each of the smaller pieces of wood, 50mm from one end.
Step five
Use these pencil lines as a guide to assembling the bed, as shown. Fix with PVA glue and panel pins.
Step six
Apply one coat of
Resene Red Beech to the bed, brushing in the direction of the grain, and allow to dry.
Step eight
Apply two more coats of
Resene Aquaclear gloss to the bed. Again, allow two hours for each coat to dry.
