Interior: It’s easy to give a wooden picture frame an antique look with a little bit of help from Resene.

Difficulty level:  Moderate

You will need

To get the look:  Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Pohutukawa.

Other ideas:  For a silver effect paint the inner rim of the picture frame with Resene Silver Aluminium.

How to make an antique frame

 

Antique frame - Step 1 Step one
Remove the hanging device from the back of the picture frame.


Antique frame - Step 2 Step two
Lightly sand the picture frame, rubbing in the direction of the grain.


Antique frame - Step 3 Step three
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.


Antique frame - Step 4 Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Colorwood tinted to Resene Deep Oak to the picture frame.


Antique frame - Step 5 Step five
Allow the wood stain to penetrate the wood for ten minutes and then wipe off any excess with a clean cloth. Allow to dry.


Antique frame - Step 6 Step six
Apply three coats of Resene Aquaclear flat to the picture frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.


Antique frame - Step 7 Step seven
Apply a generous coat of Resene FX Crackle effect to the inner rim of the picture frame and allow to dry.


Antique frame - Step 8 Step eight
Apply one coat of Resene Copper Fire to the inner rim of the picture frame and allow to dry.
