Ways with wood with Mark Rayner - Project 43
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Five 1.2m treated fence palings, 50mm galvanised nails, hammer, paintbrush, paint stirrer, pencil, exterior pva glue, sandpaper, saw, set square, tape measure and Resene Woodsman Whitewash.
To get the look: Mark painted the background shed wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Florentine Pink and the decking with Resene Waterborne Sidewalk tinted to Resene Tuscany.
Other ideas: Build an indoor shelving unit from new timber and finish off with Resene Colorwood Whitewash.
Step one
Using the tape measure, set square and pencil, mark three of the fence palings into three 400mm lengths and cut with the saw.
Step two
Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.
Step three
Attach the cut lengths of timber into three āUā shaped shelves, as shown, fixing with PVA glue and galvanised nails.
Step four
On a flat surface, stand the shelves on edge, as shown, and attach one of the uncut fence palings to form the side of the shelving unit. Fix with PVA glue and galvanised nails.
Step five
Turn the unit over and attach the remaining fence paling to form the second side, as shown. Fix with PVA glue and galvanised nails.
Step six
Stir the Resene Woodsman Whitewash thoroughly with a paint stirrer.
Step seven Apply one coat of Resene Woodsman Whitewash to the shelving unit, allowing 24 hours to dry.
Step eight
