Ways with wood with Mark Rayner - Project 70
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Clean cloth, Paintbrush, Resene Aqua clear satin, Resene paint stirrer, Resene testpot of Resene Colorwood Whitewash, Sandpaper, Wooden lamp base.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene New York Pink.
Other ideas: Create a rich brown effect by staining the lamp with Resene Mahogany and then sand back to reveal the wood beneath. Again, finish off with Resene Aquaclear.
Step one
Unscrew the bulb fitting from the lamp.
Step two
Lightly sand the lamp base to remove old varnish and ‘key’ the surface.
Step three
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Colorwood Whitewash and allow to dry.
Step five
Lightly sand off some of the Resene Colorwood Whitewash, as shown, to reveal the wood colour beneath.
Step six
Lightly sand off some of the Resene Colorwood Whitewash, as shown, to reveal the wood colour beneath.
Step eight
Apply three coats of
Resene Aquaclear to the lamp base, allowing two hours for each coat to dry. Reassemble the bulb fitting.
