How to build a garden seat
Create this simple square garden seat from landscaping timber and finish off with a rich red shade from the Resene Woodsman range.

Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: 75mm exterior screws, mineral turpentine, paint stirrer, paintbrush, pencil, Resene Paint Pot, Resene Woodsman wood oil stain tinted to Resene Totem Pole, sandpaper, saw, screwdriver, set square, tape measure, tongue and groove landscaping timber (approx 14m).
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene AquaShield tinted to Resene Quarter Dutch White.
Other ideas: For a rich green effect stain the garden seat with Resene Woodsman wood oil stain tinted to Resene Rangitoto.
Instructions
Step one
Measure, mark and cut fourteen lengths of landscaping timber, each measuring one metre. Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.
Step two
Assemble four of these lengths of timber to form a rectangular frame, as shown, using a set square to ensure corners are at ninety degrees. Fix together with 75mm screws.
Step three
Place four more lengths of timber on top of the first frame, as shown, to create a second layer. Again, fix together with 75mm screws.
Step four
Place the six remaining lengths of timber across the base, as shown. Once again, fix with 75mm screws.
Step five
Carefully stir the Resene Woodsman wood oil stain tinted to Resene Totem Pole.
Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Woodsman wood oil stain tinted to Resene Totem Pole to the garden seat and allow 24 hours to dry.
Step seven
Apply a second coat of Resene Woodsman wood oil stain tinted to Resene Totem Pole to the garden seat and allow 24 hours to dry.
Step eight
Wash brush in mineral turpentine.
