Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 02
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Large rock with a sculptural form, paintbrush, PVA glue, rectangle of black felt, rectangular block of wood for plinth, Resene Enamacryl Metallic (now Resene FX Metallic) tinted to Resene Bullion, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Porsche, Resene Multishield+ (now Resene Concrete Clear) Gloss, Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat, Testpot Resene Black, Testpot Resene Sandtex Superfine.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to Resene Rich Cream from the Resene Heritage Chart. The sculpture is standing on the shabby chic table (Resene art Project #3).
Other ideas: For a sleek and modern look try using Resene Silver Aluminium or Resene White Metal from the Resene Metallics range.
Step one
Wash the rock thoroughly in warm soapy water to remove any dirt or moss. Rinse in clean water and allow to dry.
Step two
Prime the rock with one coat of
Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat. Allow to dry.
Step three
Using a stippling technique to create texture, paint the rock with one coat of
Resene Sandtex Superfine. Allow to dry.
Step four
Paint the rock with one coat of
Resene Porsche. Allow to dry.
Step five
Paint the rock with one coat of Resene Enamacryl Metallic (now
Resene FX Metallic)
Bullion. Once dried, apply a second coat. Allow to dry.
Step six
Apply a coat of Resene Multishield+ (now
Resene Concrete Clear) Gloss to intensify the colour and create a glossy finish to the sculpture.
Step seven
Prime the wooden plinth with one coat of
Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat. Allow to dry.
Step eight
Paint the plinth with two coats of
Resene Black. Once dry, glue a rectangle of black felt underneath the plinth (to protect any surface it stands on). Let the glue dry, and then position the rock on the plinth.
