Gold textured painting
Use a selection of Resene Art Action metallic paints to create a fabulous textured abstract painting.
Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 22
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: 50mm wide roll of clear sticky tape, paintbrushes, primed artists’ canvas, Resene Art Action Metallic paints in the following colours: Resene Bullion, Resene Gold Dust and Resene Gold Effect, Resene Multishield+ gloss (now Resene Concrete Clear), Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat, Resene Testpot in Resene Porsche.
To get the look: Mark painted the surrounding wall with Resene Zylone Sheen tinted to Resene Monza.
Other ideas: Use this same technique to create a stunning silver artwork using a base coat of Resene Silver Chalice with topcoats of Resene Silver Aluminium and Resene Scotty Silver.
Step one
Apply the sticky tape to the canvas in a random fashion, creating a heavily textured surface, as shown.
Step two
Turn the canvas over and press firmly across the back to make sure the tape is stuck down.
Step three
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat to the front and side edges of the canvas and allow to dry for at least an hour.
Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Porsche to the front and side edges of the canvas and allow to dry for two hours.
Step five
Apply two coats of Resene Bullion to the front and side edges of the canvas, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step six
Use a dry brush technique to lightly apply Resene Gold Dust to the raised areas on the canvas, allowing two hours to dry.
Step seven
Apply a few highlights of Resene Gold Effect to complete the textured look. Allow to dry.
Step eight
Apply one coat of Resene Multishield+ gloss (now Resene Concrete Clear) to the entire canvas and allow to dry overnight before hanging.
