Retro fashion picture
Create a fabulous fashion artwork using craft supplies and Resene paints.
Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 24
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Paper roses, paintbrushes, picture frame with backing board, PVA glue, Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat, Resene testpots in Resene Plum and Resene Sunglo, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, retro fashion picture (ours came from a calendar), sandpaper.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene Zylone Sheen tinted to Resene Sunglo.
Other ideas: For a more modern feel, use white paper roses, paint the frame with Resene Silver Aluminium and the backing board with Resene Nero.
Step one
Carefully remove the backing board from the frame.
Step two
Lightly sand the frame to provide a ‘key’.
Step three
Apply one coat of
Resene Quick Dry to the backing board and allow to dry for one hour.
Step five
Apply two coats of
Resene Sunglo to the backing board allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step six
Apply two coats of
Resene Plum to the picture frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step seven
Replace the backing board. Attach paper roses around the edge of the backing board using PVA glue.
Step eight
Fix a retro fashion photo to centre of the backing board using PVA glue. Allow to dry before hanging.
