Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 39
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Craft shells, plain wooden picture frame, paintbrushes (including an artists’ brush), PVA glue, Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat, Resene testpots in the following colours: Resene Charlotte, Resene French Pass, Resene Pelorous and Resene Spray, sandpaper.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Texas Rose.
Other ideas: Create a fabulous theatrical effect by painting the shell frame with one coat of Resene Porsche followed by two coats of Resene Bullion.
Step one
Lightly sand the picture frame with sandpaper to provide a ‘key’ to the surface, as shown.
Step two
Using a generous amount of PVA glue, attach fanshaped shells to the corners and centres of the frame, as shown.
Step three
Using a generous amount of PVA glue, attach larger shells at regular intervals around the frame, as shown. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly overnight.
Step four
Apply one coat of
Resene Quick Dry to the shells and the frame, allowing two hours to dry.
Step five
Using an artists’ brush, apply two coats of
Resene Pelorous to the frame, as shown. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.
Step six
Apply two coats of
Resene Spray to the fanshaped shells, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step seven
Apply two coats of
Resene French Pass to the larger shells along the top and bottom of the frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step eight
Apply two coats of
Resene Charlotte to the larger shells down either sides of the frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
