It’s easy to transform a plain ceramic money box into something colourful and cool with the help of a few Resene testpots.

Resene kids art with Mark Rayner - Project 44
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Ceramic VW Beetle car money box (ours came from ‘Spotlight’), Paintbrushes, Resene Art Action Metallic in Resene Silver Aluminium, Resene testpots in the following colours: Resene Alabaster, Resene Guardsman Red and Resene Nero, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, Sandpaper
Top tip: Use a small artists’ brush to paint around the edges of the windows and tyres for a neat finish.
Here's another idea: Transform a coffee jar into a cool storage pot using testpots of Resene Resolution Blue and Resene Turbo, and finish off with gold and blue self adhesive stars.

Step one
Lightly sand the ceramic money box to provide a ‘key’ to the surface – this will help the paint to stick.
Step two
Paint the money box with one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer and allow to dry for two hours.
Step three
Paint the windows and front headlamps of the car with two coats of Resene Alabaster, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step four
Paint the tyres of the car with two coats of Resene Nero, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step five
Paint the bodywork of the car with two coats of Resene Guardsman Red, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step six
Paint the hubcaps with two coats of Resene Silver Aluminium, allowing two hours for each coat to dry. Once it’s dry, get driving - and saving!
