Polka dot planter
Go dotty and brighten up your deck or patio with this retro-look polka dot planter.
Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 44
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Bowl-shaped terracotta plant pot, damp cloth, good quality potting mix, paintbrushes (including artists’ brush), Resene Terracotta Sealer, Resene testpots in the following colours: Resene Alabaster, Resene Cabaret, Resene Geronimo and Resene Illusion, Resene Multishield+ gloss (now Resene Concrete Clear), six pink polyanthus plants.
To get the look: Mark painted the background shed wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Rob Roy.
Other ideas: For a bright, contrasting effect try a basecoat of Resene Malibu with spots painted in Resene Balloon, Resene Pulse and Resene Supernova.
Step one
Remove any sticky labels from the pot and wipe the pot clean with a damp cloth. Allow to dry.
Step three
Paint the outside and inner rim of the pot with two coats of
Resene Alabaster, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step four
Using an artists’ brush, paint random spots on the outside of the pot using
Resene Geronimo.
Step five
Repeating step 4, paint random spots on the outside of the pot using
Resene Cabaret.
Step six
Repeating step 4, paint random spots on the outside of the pot using
Resene Illusion. Allow to dry for two hours.
Step seven
Apply one coat of
Resene Concrete Clear to the outside and inner rim of the pot, allowing two hours to dry.
Step eight
Pot up with good quality potting mix and six pink polyanthus plants.
