Cool-coloured bookcase

Transform a humble MDF bookcase into a stylish piece of furniture using a cool three-colour combo from Resene.

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: a MDF bookcase, clean cloth, paintbrushes (including a medium-sized artists’ brush), sandpaper and wood filler. Resene Quick Dry and Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel tinted to Resene Alabaster, Resene Panorama and Resene Relax.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to Resene Float.

Other ideas: For a bright pink look, try a combination of Resene Cabaret, Resene Geronimo and Resene Shocking.

Fill any holes in the MDF with wood filler and allow to dry.
Step 2

Lightly sand smooth and remove any sanding dust with a clean cloth.
Step 3

With the bookcase face down, apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the back of the bookcase, as shown.
Step 4

Stand the right way up and apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the rest of the bookcase. Allow two hours to dry.

Paint the interior shelves and walls of the bookcase with two coats of Resene Alabaster, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Paint the outside walls, top and back of the bookcase with two coats of Resene Panorama, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Using an artists’ brush, carefully paint the outer edges of the bookcase with two coats of Resene Panorama, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Using an artists’ brush, carefully paint the outer edges of the bookcase with two coats of Resene Panorama, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
