Testpot table

Turn a tired old table into a work of art with a few Resene testpots.

Fun with furniture with Mark Rayner - Project 08

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: an old varnished wooden table, paintbrush and sandpaper. Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer and Resene testpots in the following colours: Resene Cigar, Resene Cinnamon, Resene Cioccolato, Resene Dark Buff, Resene Kalgoorie Sands and two of Resene Wood Bark.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to Resene Mission Brown and the concrete floor with Resene Sidewalk flooring and paving paint tinted to Resene Calico.

Other ideas: Try a dazzling green combination using Resene Crusoe, Resene Groovy, Resene Japanese Laurel, Resene Mantis and Resene Feijoa over a basecoat of Resene Midnight Moss.

Step one
Lightly sand the varnish to provide a ‘key’.

Step two
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the table and allow two hours to dry.

Step three
Apply two coats of Resene Wood Bark to the table, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step four
Paint a thick band around the edge of the tabletop with Resene Dark Buff.

Step five
Before the paint has dried, paint a second thick band using Resene Cioccolato. Apply the paint thickly and dab into the previous colour to mix it slightly.
