Doll house
Transform an old wooden bookcase into a fun doll house with a little bit of help from Resene.
Resene Toys and Games with Mark Rayner - Project 27
Difficulty level: Challenging
You will need: Clean cloth, drill, low tack masking tape, old wooden bookcase, paintbrushes, pencil, piece of plywood cut to fit the front of the bookcase, Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Dreamer, Resene Quick Dry, Resene testpots of Resene All Black, Resene Malibu and Resene Rocket, sandpaper, screwdriver, set square, small hinges (x2), tape measure.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Half Dutch White.
Other ideas: Use a selection of Resene testpot colours and old wallpaper samples to decorate the interior of the doll house.
Step one
Sand the piece of plywood and the wooden bookcase, and then wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step two
Apply one coat of
Resene Quick Dry to the plywood and bookcase and allow to dry.
Step three
Apply two coats of
Resene Dreamer to the plywood and bookcase, allowing each coat to dry.
Step four
Fix the piece of plywood to the front of the bookcase using two small hinges, drilling pilot holes first.
Step five
Measure and mask off the windows and door using low tack masking tape, as shown.
Step six
Apply one coat of
Resene Dreamer around the inner edges of the masked window and door areas and allow to dry. This will help to prevent other colours bleeding through.
Step seven
Paint the door with two coats of
Resene Rocket and the windows with two coats of
Resene All Black. Carefully remove the masking tape before the second coat has dried.
Step eight
Mask off the window frames in sections and paint with one generous coat of
Resene Malibu, carefully removing the masking tape before each section dries.
