Blackboard art
Create this retro-inspired blackboard artwork, and write a different message whenever you fancy a change.
Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 61
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: 6mm hardboard, clean cloth, hammer, paint roller and tray, pencil, retro picture frame, Resene Blackboard Paint (Blue), Resene Mineral Turps, Resene Sureseal, ruler, sandpaper, saw, small panel pins.
To get the look: Mark has painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat in Resene Trinidad.
Other ideas: For a theatrical look, use Resene Blackboard Paint (pink) and paint surrounding frame with a basecoat of Resene Porsche and two coats of Resene Bullion.
Step one
Measure and mark the hardboard to fit the picture frame.
Step two
Using the pencil lines as a guide, carefully cut the hardboard with a sharp saw.
Step three
Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper and wipe off any sanding dust with a clean cloth.
Step four
Using the paint roller and tray apply one coat of Resene Sureseal to the front of the hardboard and allow to dry.
Step five
Wash roller and tray using Resene Mineral Turps.
Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Blackboard Paint (Blue) to the front of the hardboard and allow to dry.
Step eight
Fit the piece of hardboard into the frame, securing from behind with small panel pins.
