Cubist sculpture
Create this sleek cubist sculpture from a piece of reclaimed native timber and enhance the grain with Resene Aquaclear.
Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 67
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Clean cloth, paintbrush, paint stirrer, pencil, piece of old plywood or MDF, piece of reclaimed native timber, PVA glue, Resene Aquaclear gloss, ruler, sandpaper, saw.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Birthday Suit.
Other ideas: For a darker effect, tint the Resene Aquaclear with Resene Colorwood in Resene Walnut.
Step one
Mark the piece of timber into five equal cubes.
Step two
Carefully cut the timber into cubes, as shown.
Step three
Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper and wipe off any sanding dust with a clean cloth.
Step four
Stand the two base blocks in position on the piece of flat board, as shown, and fix the third block on top with PVA glue.
Step five
Place the fourth block in position, as shown, fixing with PVA glue.
Step six
Place the fifth block in position, as shown, again fixing with PVA glue. Allow glue to dry thoroughly.
Step eight
Apply three coats of
Resene Aquaclear to the wooden sculpture, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
