Golden lion

Turn a weathered concrete statue into a fabulous garden feature with a little bit of help from Resene.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 82

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Bucket, Garden hose with clean running water, Mineral turpentine, Paintbrushes, Resene Concrete Clear gloss, Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Bullion, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Porsche, Resene Moss & Mould Killer, Resene Paint Prep and Housewash, Resene Sureseal, Rubber gloves, Stiff-bristled brush

To get the look: Mark painted the background fence with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Eternity.

Other ideas: Create a classic white stone look by painting the lion with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Alabaster.

Mix one part Resene Moss & Mould Killer to five parts clean water.
Step 2

Soak the concrete lion with the solution and leave for 48 hours.
Step 3

Mix one part Resene Paint Prep and Housewash to three parts clean water.
Step 4
Step four
Scrub the concrete lion vigorously with the solution using a stiff bristled brush. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry.
Step 5

Apply one coat of Resene Sureseal to the concrete lion and allow three hours to dry. Clean brush in mineral turpentine.
Step 6
Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Porsche to the concrete lion and allow two hours to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply two coats of Resene Bullion to the concrete lion, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply three coats of Resene Concrete Clear to the concrete lion, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
