Metallic filing cabinet
It’s easy to transform an old wooden filing cabinet into a sleek piece of office furniture with Resene FX Metallic.
Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 08
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Interior filler, old wooden filing cabinet, paint tray/roller, paintbrushes, Resene Aquaclear semi-gloss, Resene Enamacryl Metallic (Resene FX Metallic) tinted to Resene Sputnik, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Cove Grey, Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat, Resene Sandtex, sandpaper, screwdriver, two chrome handles.
To get the look: Mark painted the surrounding wall with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to Resene Morning Glory.
Other ideas: Use Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Nero and Resene Aquaclear gloss for a contemporary black finish.
Step one
Using the screwdriver, remove the old handles from the filing cabinet.
Step two
Fill any holes or imperfections in the wood using an interior filler. Allow to dry.
Step three
Lightly sand the entire filing cabinet to provide a ‘key’ for the paint.
Step four
Apply one coat of
Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat. Allow to dry.
Step five
Using an old paintbrush and ‘stippling’ technique, apply one coat of
Resene Sandtex. Allow to dry.
Step seven
Using the paint roller and tray apply two coats of
Resene FX Metallic Sputnik, allowing two hours to dry between coats.
Step eight
Apply two coats of
Resene Aquaclear semigloss, allowing two hours to dry between coats. Once dry, fit new chrome handles.
